Sierra Nevadas Wander:

August 4 - 11, 2019

Take on the mountains and lakes of the Sierra Nevadas in this summer youth expedition, an 8-day outdoor program based in the Lake Tahoe region of California. You will spend four days backpacking through the Desolation Wilderness, where you’ll get to swim in the emerald water of the Enchanted Pools and wander along stunning granite ridgelines. Your time on trail will be bookended by camping in the Lake Tahoe region, where you’ll go on day hikes, dip into more alpine lakes, and take kayaks out on to the water.

Sierra Nevadas Wander is a fantastic opportunity to explore one of the country’s most beautiful protected Wilderness areas with the support of fun and experienced leaders, and with the companionship of a crew of peers.

PROGRAM ITINERARY:

August 4 - Trip leaders will meet students at the Reno, NV airport, where you will all load into the van and drive to your campground in Lake Tahoe for the night. The rest of the day will be spent preparing for your backpacking trip in the Desolation Wilderness, exploring Lake Tahoe, and settling into the campground.

August 5 - Today you will finish up final preparations for your backpacking trip and spend time getting to know everyone in your group. If time and weather permit, you’ll get to take kayaks out on to the lake. Tonight you and the group will go out to dinner in Lake Tahoe.

August 6 - 9 - Load up your bags and take to the trail! You’ll head out on the 6th to begin a thirty mile loop through the Desolation Wilderness. Each night, you and the group will settle into camp next to an alpine lake with exquisite views. Enjoy delicious backcountry meals as you go!

August 10 - Once you get back into town after your hike, you’ll have time to clean up, rest your legs and take on some relaxing exploration of other Sierra Nevada trails.

August 11 - Pack up and drive to Reno, NV for your flight back home.
