Peru Cultural Expedition

This two-week expedition will take you from Peru’s coastal capital of Lima to the mountain city of Huaraz, where you will explore ancient history, iconic alpine lakes, local culture, and the impressive mountains of the Cordillera Blanca range. The trip includes a two-night trek into the mountains with the assistance of donkeys to help carry your things. During this trek, you will stay at a beautiful and remote refugio - a mountain hut seeped in local culture and history. The rest of your time will be spent visiting ancient archeological sites, hot springs, local art exhibits, and navigating Peru’s local cuisine. You will watch Peruvian artisans at work, explore traditional fabric markets, and taste the diverse flavors of Peruvian food. This trip provides an excellent balance of high altitude trekking with numerous rest days focused on exploring the local culture of Huaraz and its surroundings.

Optional add-ons:

• Want more time in Peru? Consider joining us for a third week, during which you will fly from Lima to Cusco to hike the world-famous trek to Machu Picchu! In addition to a five-day guided trek to Machu Picchu, you will attend a sound meditation workshop and go on a Cusco City sightseeing tour. Explore the bustling Plaza de Armas and tour the many cathedrals, statues, museums and artisan markets of this historic city.

Program Tuition: 

Full Package Rate: $2,950 + airfare.

Includes:

• 11 nights of lodging in private hotel rooms 

• 2 nights of lodging shared bunks in historical alpine huts 

• In-country transport 

• Mountain rescue insurance 

• Trekking permits and sevices 

• 3 meals per day, including in-city restaurant dinners 

• 1 drink per day

Participants are asked to arrange their own travel insurance and their own travel to Jorge Chavéz International Airport in Lima, Peru.

Cusco/Machu Picchu Rate: 

This optional 7-day add-on expedition from Lima to Cusco is available for an additional $2,900/person.

• Round-trip flights from Lima to Cusco 

• Private guide and donkeys to carry gear along trek 

• Nightly accommodations 

• Machu Picchu permits and fees
