ORIENTEERING & SURVIVAL SKILLS
AGES 8 - 11
RLC Orienteering & Survival Skills
June 16 – June 22, 2019
Spend a week exploring the woods and learning basic survival and navigation skills through a range of fun, hands-on activities. Learn how to read a map and compass, then use your new skills to follow scavenger hunt clues around our campus property. Each search will end with a fun surprise! Along the way, you’ll learn how to safely start a fire and build a fort from natural materials; what to do if you ever get lost in the woods; and how to identify some safe, edible plants.
Orienteering activities will be interspersed with a range of other activities around our mountain campus. Hike up to a mountain view, take canoes onto the lake, help cook meals, and lend a hand on the farm.
For five nights of the program, students will share rooms in our lakeside Eileen Rockefeller House and enjoy fresh meals prepared using ingredients from our farm. The remaining night will be spent camping in our forest, where you can put your newfound skills to test!
